Slow Fashion With Compassion

The story of Cinta Sinta is that of a remarkable overcoming of unimaginable adversity.  Abandoned at birth in Singaraja, Bali and paralyzed with polio, her early years were spent in orphanages, hospitals and later living in a banyan tree with fellow orphans. These experiences have given her a vast compassion for her fellow humans, and an affinity for the natural world.  Her life became full of encounters with high-level politicians, saints, sinners, sorcerers, governors, mayors, bishops, gurus and holy-men. She survived a deadly orphanage fire, an attempted murder, chemotherapy, and is now healed of her polio. Entirely self-taught, Cinta speaks 4 languages, and through her business Cinta Sinta Fashion, is an active force for caring for others, especially those less fortunate.

Drawing on years of working in the fashion industries of Java and Bali, Cinta presents her unique and ecologically conscious artisan fashion line, reflecting the exquisiteness of our natural world. Most of her clothing and apparel is created with hand-dyed organic fabrics, and printed using Nature’s Alchemy™ printing.  This is a labor-intensive process of using hand-picked flowers, blossoms, leaves and  stems, which are creatively applied to fabrics that have been dyed, sealed and steamed for several hours, allowing the colorful essence of the plants to be transferred to the material.  As a result, no two designs are alike, resulting in wearable one-of-a-kind art.

One can find parallels between the lush flowers, plants, and natural forms of nature’s beauty found in Cinta Sinta Fashion, and her early exposure to to the lush natural world of Bali. Now a United States citizen, Cinta Sinta Tornick has cultivated and refined her innate ability to create beauty, whether through creating art at the traditional market in Ubud in her younger days,  or during her highly successful career as a sought-after photographer in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Together with her husband, Josef Skye Tornick, they have sold thousands of their fine-art photographic prints, to museums and collectors worldwide.
